Please read the article located in Critical Thinking: A Stage Theory. Referring to the information and ideas presented in that article, please respond to the following:
1. What is your sense of your own critical thinking skills? (for ex: strengths and weaknesses). Which stage best describes your thinking? How do you move forward?
2. Have you used other tools for assessing your own reasoning skills? If so, what kind of tools? If not, can you think of possible tools?

• According to this both thinkers, I come out with some major points in critical thinking “We believe that significant gains in the intellectual quality of students works will not be achieved expect to the degree that teacher recognize that skill critical thinking develops only when properly cultivated and only through the predictable stages.
• We believe that the “Practicality” of the theory we explain here is best tested in the classroom and in everyday life
• I believe that some assumption (1) that RIM from one stage, to the next is supported upon a sufficient level of commitment of the one the part of a separately to develop as a critical thinkers. The success of student based on quality of talent which can be implemented by student learning.
• So these are the basic concept of ideas by which I quoted by “Lina – Elder” and Richard Paul”
• There are some basic concepts which are understood by me from this article.
• As we displayed in our concept that who are critical thinkers? So I attached an answer that those thinkers are being thought critically in only tract on their lives.

ReplyDeleteCritical thinking is kind of process which include certain skill and strategies that increases the possibility of a desirable result. In critical thinking purposeful, reasoned and good directed thinking used in solving problems, calculating likehodes and for making decisions. Critical thinking is concerned on reason, intellectual, honesty and open-mindedness; it opposes emotions and closed mindedness. Thus, critical thinking leads on, considering all possibilities. It depends more on reason rather on emotion. It is precise and provides varity of possible viewpoints and explanations. Critical thinking has more concerned on find truth rather than to prove being right. The thinker who involved into this process are always aware of one’s biases and prejudices and they are not allowing them to come any way how in judgement.

Unreflective thinkers are not aware with the role of thinking in their life and how it is helpful in solving the problems of their lives. They have lack of knowledge which should be possessed by high quality thinkers. Unreflective thinkers are fail to recognize thinking as involving concept, assumptions, inferences, implications, point of view etc.
Thinkers move to challenged level when they come to know the role of thinking in their life and problems in their thinking may create some other serious problems in their lives. The challenged thinkers are become aware of that the high quality thinking requires deliberate reflective thinking about thing.
Those thinkers who are moved to the beginning thinker stage are taking up the challenged to begin thinking on multiple domains of their of their lives. Thinkers of this stage understand that they have basic problems in their thinking and they have to make little afforts to better recognize how they can take charge and improve. Beginning thinkers are totally aware with all the things like challenged thinkers
I will move forward with the help of different stages as under mentioned and developed my sense of critical thinking.
Thinkers in this stage, need to develop to take charge of their thinking. They recognize the problems in their thinking but they have to know how systematically handle this type of problems. practicing thinkers recognize the need for systematically of critical thinking. Practicing thinkers have enough skill in thinking to criticism of their power of thoughts. practicing thinkers also have enough skill to begin to regularly monitor their own thoughts.
Thinkers at this stage established good habits of thoughts. On the basis of these habits, advanced thinkers not only actively analyse their thinking in all the significant domains of their lives. They have also significant insight into deeper levels of thought. They have begun to understanding not only the need of systematic practice in thinking, but also insight into deep levels of problems in thought.
Master thinkers have systematically taken charge of their thinking and they are constantly monitoring, revising and re- thinking. They have deeply initialized the basic skills of thoughts. Master thinkers are not only engaged in systematically monitoring the role in their thinking process but also regularly improving their practice. I do not use other tools for assessing my own reasoning skills.
Self-evaluation is very important process in critical thinking because through this kind of self-evaluation one can knew about himself that in which category of thinking he or she is belonging. The evaluation makes them aware about the wide concept of the critical thinking and its stages of the development. By evaluation one can knew about his place in different stages, after than he or she may develop his or her critical ability and move forward step by step getting goals in the form of different stages of critical thinkers. With the help of this type of evaluation thinkers have got the exist idea about what they have to think and how they have to think. Thinkers are also, become aware of how to avoid problems successfully and move forward to the next stage.

Here the teacher’s duty is to help their learners in providing a conceptual map that can uide them through. So far as my own thinking skills are concerned, i would like to say that i am a basically at the first stage of thinking. ican the role of thinking in my life the part that is played by various concepts, inferences, hypothesizes in my day to day activities . on the other hand i am yet to learn how to internalize them

Critical thinking will provide insight and understanding and it is also provide an ownership of what we believe. Critical thinking is judicious reasoning about what to believe and what not to believe and therefore what to do. Critical thinking is the art of thinking about your thinking in order to make your thinking better, clearer, more accurate or more defensible. It is a systematic process and it is based on order. You are thinking critically in order therefore your thinking is better, clearer, more accurate or more defensible. Critical thinking is best understood as the ability of thinkers to take charge of their own thinking and analyzing, assessing their own thinking and improve its quality. Is this conclusion based on evidence or gut feeling? And are there alternative possibilities when given new pieces of information? Critical thinking can be divided into the following three core skills.
1 curiosity is the desire to learn more information and seek evidence as well as being open to new ideas.
2 Skepticism involves having a healthy questioning attitude about new information.

In fact, if you limit your critical thinking to those things, then you are not critical thinker at all. The persuaders want us to think that it is easy-all we need to do is feel good about the message, if we feel good about the message then the message must be true, right? Wrong. Critical thinkers must exercise intellectual humility. Criticize with understanding the rules of logic and degreed understand that position must be defend with reasons there is some other qualities are important; intellectual humility, intellectual courage, intellectual empathy, faith in reason.
Stage one is best for me because fundamentally unaware of the role that thinking is playing in our lives. At these unreflective stages, we have no useful conceptions of what thinking entails. For example as an unreflective thinkers we don’t notice that we are contumely making assumption, forming concept, drawing inference, and thinking within points of view. At this stage we don’t know how to analyze and assess our thinking. ReplyDeleteCritical Thinking means the ability and disposition to improve one’s thinking by systematically subjecting it to intellectual self-assessment. To think critically from that all dimensions of one’s life. Critical Thinking makes the person confident so that the person will be able to take decision.
Critical Thinking gives me the awareness of thinking. It also provides me the way to think and take decision. It helps me to present my own ideas.
As per my point of view I describe myself best in ‘The Challenge Thinker’. This stage gives me awareness of thinking which take place in life and the basic problems that come from poor thinking. Challenged thinkers are unlike the unreflective thinkers who get some awareness of higher level thinking. Here the thinker can recognize that their thinking has the drawbacks but some of the time thinker cannot be able to identify their drawbacks. Challenged thinkers may develop an initial awareness of thinking as involving concepts, assumptions, inferences, implications, points of view, etc., and as involving standards for assessment of thinking: clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, logicalness, etc. Challenged thinkers also develop some understanding of the role of self-deception in thinking, though their understanding is limited. At this stage the thinker develops some reflective awareness of how thinking operates for good or ill. Taking about the skill of challenged thinkers they have very limited skills in thinking. These kind of thinkers have developed various skills in thinking without being aware of them and these skills serves as barriers to development. These kind of thinkers easily deceive themselves by believing that their thinking is better than actual thinking, making it more difficult to recognize the problems inherent in poor thinking. To move forward from this stage I need to take challenges which the beginner thinkers have. To recognize the basic problems in the thinking and make initial attempts to better understand for the improvement. By understanding it I deed some modifications in thinking but on the other hand have very limited understanding of deeper understanding. Most importantly these kind of thinkers have lack of systematic plan for the improvement in thinking so their efforts are hit and mass.

ReplyDeleteWith the self- evaluation we can say that the critical thinking has various stages. With this we can improve our critical thinking. What are the basic features of thinking that students need to know to effectively take charge of their thinking intellectually, with respect to any content? First, they must come to realize that whenever humans reason, they have no choice but to use certain elements, without which their thinking would be intellectually unintelligible.
Thinking is inevitably driven by the questions we seek to answer and those questions we seek to answer for some purpose. To answer questions, we need information which is in fact meaningful to us only if we interpret it. Our interference, in turn, is based on assumptions and requires that we use ideas or concepts to organize the information in some way from some point of view. Last but not least, our thinking not only begins somewhere intellectually, it also goes somewhere that is has implications and consequences.
These types of self- evaluation are useful because we can think critically is really very helpful for us. Using critical thinking we can self-evaluate our self. We explicitly focus on the mind intellectually and grasp the stages that we must progress trough. As a student we must recognize that we all develop incrementally as thinkers and that progress of any one of us is directly dependent on our level of intellectual knowledge and commitment. Put another way, if I am to develop my critical thinking ability I must both “discover” my thinking and must intellectually take charges of it.
Why is this so important? Precisely because the human mind left to its own, pursues that which is immediately easy, that which is comfortable, and that which serves its selfish interests. At the same time, it naturally resists that which is difficult to understand, that which involves complexity, that which requires entering the thinking and predicaments of others. For these reasons, it is crucial that we as teachers and educators discover our own "thinking," the thinking we do in the classroom and outside the classroom, the thinking that gets us into trouble and the thinking that enables us to grow. As educators we must treat thinking quality thinking a sour highest priority.

ReplyDelete ANS 1:Critical thinking is that mode of thinking about any subject, content, or problem in which the thinker improves the quality of her/his thinking by skilfully analysing, assessing and reconstructing it. The quality of our life and that of what we produce, make, or build it depends precisely on the quality of our thoughts. By developing the critical thinking skill a thinker communicates effectively with other in figuring out solutions to complex problems and comes to well reasoned conclusions and solutions.
All people have great capability of thinking. Usually we take our thinking granted and we don’t do the work to improve our thoughts. Development in thinking needs very long process of learning and hard work. It is not possible to become an excellent thinker. Changing one’s thoughts is a long period process, takes years. We can help ourselves to practice better thinking in everyday life.
There are six stages theory of critical thinking. We should understand the stages which need in development as a critical thinking. Critical thinking is important in developing a successful career. From this we can develop skills like analysing, interpretation, self regulation, explanation and evaluation.

ANS 3: From all six stages, I think belong to stage three which is the beginning thinker. The individual who move to the starting stage would actively bring up the test to begin the explicit command of their thinking. The people who are on this stage remember that they have fundamental issues in their thinking. And they try to understand better. In view of this starting understanding, yet all they have limited insight into deeper level. Those people need to start comprehension of the part of egocentric institution. The people who belong to this stage have the capability to appreciate the critique and can understand what he has commented. We think within a variety of domains which are: sociological, intellectual, economical etc. We end up with our particular beliefs because we are influenced to do so.
To move from this stage to the next stage this is the practicing thinker. For that one need to do regular practice to become good thinker. We should approach a person who encourages one. We try to improve thinking but without regular practice. So to reach to the next stage we should know necessary of regular practice of thinking and analysing the thoughts. All people have great capability of thinking. Usually we take our thinking granted and we don’t do the work to improve our thoughts. We can help ourselves to practice better thinking in everyday life.
There are six stages theory of critical thinking. We should understand the stages which need in development as a critical thinking. Critical thinking is important in developing a successful career. From this we can develop skills like analysing, interpretation, self regulation, explanation and evaluation.

Teachers need to take students through stages of intellectual development. Critical thinking provides a way of deeply embracing content intellectually. Thinking is inevitably driven by the questions we seek to answer, and those questions we seek to the answer for some purpose. To answer questions, we need information which is in fact meaningful to us only if we interpret it. Our references in turn are based on assumptions and require that we use ideas or concepts to organize the information in some way from some point of view. Our thinking not only begins somewhere intellectually, it goes somewhere that is has implications and consequences. We also provide a vehicle which effectively enables them to critically think through the content of their classes seeing connections between all of what they are learning. If students understand the purpose of history, literature and government etc... They can begin to learn that there are different things which we as learner try to figure out. They learn that when we want to figure something out we have to ask particular questions about it. All subjects presuppose certain fundamental questions which guide thinking within a content area. The best stage describe my thinking is third stage the begging thinker. At the end of the assessment, my teacher advised to improve my mathematical abilities for the overall development of my mind as other fields were well versed. We recognise that person are critical thinkers in a fullest sense of the term. They display this ability and disposition of the dimensions of their lives as a parent, citizen, friend, and learner.
ReplyDeleteWe find certain strength and weaknesses as regards critical thinking. A good critical thinker has certain strengths. He regularly practices thinking accurately. He assesses and actively improves thinking. He know that quality thinking requires reflective thinking. He develops understanding of the role of self-deception in thinking. Commanding a variety of skills, he practices good thinking to become a good thinker. He develops a good habit of thinking and a sound habit of thinking and a sound habit of thoughts. He actively analyses thinking in a number of domains and eliminates egocentric thinking. He always focuses on the purpose, question, information, implications and clarifies information and remains fair-minded.
We find certain weaknesses among the critical thinkers they lack in the ability to assess their thinking and short of knowledge of high quality. The fail to recognise the concept, assumption, implications, point of view. They are unaware of the standards like clarity, accuracy, relevance. They lack of systematic for monitoring and improving thinking.
We find different stages of thinker like 1) The unreflective thinker 2) The challenged thinker 3) The beginning thinker 4) The practicing thinker 5) The advanced thinker 6) The master thinker
As far as my present stage I am in the stage of practicing thinker. I have overcomes the weakness of the unreflective thinker, the challenged thinker and the beginning thinker. During the process of coming to the practicing thinker, I have commanded the strengths inherent in the unreflective thinker the challenged thinker and the beginning thinker. In this way I have moved from the reflective thinker to the present stage shedding weaknesses of preceding stages of thinkers and gaining strengths.

ReplyDeleteAns:03: Self-evaluation is useful in many ways. The thinker rather strong and better thinker has to resort to self-evaluation in order to master critical thinking. The thinker with the help of self-evaluation is able to state and explain goals and purposes. He can learn content at a deeper permanent and higher level. He is able to clarity questions and solve problem, if any he is now able to explain and apply what he learns and what he gathers. Gathering information and data and organizing them becomes easy to him. Meaning and significance of information is explicitly assessed by the thinker. He can understand the concepts and identity assumptions. He is able to consider implications and consequences fruitfully.
Through self-evaluation a thinker becomes a more motivated learner. He applies what he has learnt and what he has known. He can distinguish significant matter. He can express precisely, perfectly and exactly. Self-evaluation makes a learner able to follow and stick to questions and it does not let him wander in his thinking. He can make out the complexities in the questions and issues and considers the point of view easily. He can express his ideas easily and logically, coherently and smoothly.
Self-evaluation makes a learner from good to better and from better to best. He can progress from one stage of thinking to the last stage and master the thinking and become the master thinker. It is very useful thing that helps the learner progress continually.
In short, we can say conclude that self-evaluation is an elixir that makes a learner or thinker independent and autonomous. It can lead him to achieve the higher level of thinking just by being helped and evaluated by none other than himself.

Self evaluation is most useful for critical thinking. Critical thinking includes rationale thinking.this thinking become successsful when you thinks cognitively,became skeptical.critical thinking relys on facts and evidences it begs rationality, why you are doing this?,what is the need ?what demands you or leads you to do so?.Critical thinking demands time and then after come to an conclusion,it differs from person to person therefore it is skeptiscm.It makes people to think rationally,not to believe anything without facts and evidences. It makes the person to listen to think over it,it also accept the views and opinions of other person.it thinks in a depth of anything it assumes and also look forward in a particular way.

The most teachers aspire to make critical thinking a primary objective of their instruction, we believe that significant gains in the intellectual quality of student work will not be achieved except to the degree. we shall be brief concise and to the point in our explanation with minimal theoretical elaboration. the reader should be expressly awry. That we approaching the human mind an intellectual standpoint not from a psychological standpoint.

According to my perspective and my thinking I would like to the challenge thinkers stage. Challenge thinkers aware of the determining role that thinking is playing in their lives. that is fact that challenge thinkers are causing them serious and significant problem.
The challenge thinking comes from the poor thinking and initially they aware of the determining role of thinking in one’s life. Challenged thinkers unlike the reflective thinkers. they recognize that their thinking is often flawed, although. They are not able to identify many of this flaws. challenged thinkers may develop an initial awareness of thinking as involving ,concepts, assumptions, inferences, implications ,point of view etc. and as involving standards for the assessment of thinking clarity, accuracy, precision ,relevance, logicalness etc. challenged thinkers also develop some understanding of the role of self deception in thinkers thought their understanding is limited this stage is really challengeable for thinkers because how they thinking reflectively good or ill. The fundamental intellectual trait at this stage is intellectually humility. It is very important that we challenging our students in a supportive way. both the thinkers may be goes awry. so challenging thinkers lead to them properly.

Self evaluation helps us to develop our ability and determination .It make us more conscious ,more independent ,more active any type decision. self evaluation helps us also talk to the point effectively in front of the people. The thinker with the help of self evaluation he is able for straight forward decision and solved any problem in any situation. He is able to do achieve is goal and purpose.
